Classic, regal and... who are we kidding? Toga! Toga! Toga! Nothing quite sparks the party spirit like the look of the ancient Greeks. Made famous by fraternity houses, the toga has a lot of things going for it. The look is quick and simple, with a whole plethora of easy ways to accessorize. If you want to go all out, you can grab some sandals and gold wreath crowns to look like Greek royalty, or you can simply toss on the toga costume. And all it takes to get the party started while wearing this costume style is to shout the word "Toga!" and repeat ad nauseam.

I made my ear “fins” from floral wire and tulle, and meticulously hand sewed sequins. I wore a nude tank top and pinned my hand sewn shells on. Then I sewed a fin, using a skirt as a pattern, and added tulle fins (again, meticulously hand sequined.) I was covered in glitter and blue and green makeup, and found that delightfully tacky wig at Goodwill. Don’t worry – it was new and unused!

Anditron always dresses up for Halloween, but when she was pregnant, she wanted to incorporate her bump without being too traditional. So she made a Death Star costume. Or rather, her round belly was the Death Star, with small x-wing fighters attached. The rest of her was dressed in black. The Darth Vader helmet was incidental, but worked well. Take a look at the Death Ray deployed:

Full House's perpetually neglected Stephanie Tanner, The Brady Bunch's embittered Jan Brady, Downton Abbey's tragedy-prone Lady Edith Crawley: For many people, these are the images that pop into their heads when thinking of the stereotypical middle child. In TV shows and movies, they’re often used as comic relief, always stuck in the shadow of their other, seemingly more important siblings. But the reality is far more generous to middle children.

But researchers from the New Jersey Historical Society suggest the true founder may have been someone else with a very similar name: Matthew Maguire, a machinist from New Jersey who led several strikes in the 1870s, and by 1882 had become the secretary for the New York Central Labor Union. In an 1894 editorial about the holiday, which President Grover Cleveland had just signed into law, a New Jersey newspaper said the honor should go to Maguire, the “undisputed author of Labor Day as a holiday.”
Because so many people travel during Labor Day weekend (over 35 million, according to a AAA study), roads tend to be much more crowded—and because of that, they're more dangerous. According to data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, the U.S. saw an average of 308 fatal car accidents per year during Labor Day weekends from 2011 to 2015. That’s second only to the average number of fatal accidents seen during Memorial Day weekend (approximately 312 per year).
She's the one called Sailor Moon and she's a pretty big deal. Sailor Moon is a classic when it comes to anime, so she's a staple in comic con crowds. That makes her an easy pick when you're trying to put together a great outfit to wear for a bit of cosplay. It won't give you any of the powers that she normally has, but it will get you quite a few positive comments when you head out wearing your Sailor Moon costume. Just make sure you're rocking the long blonde pig-tails. (We’ve got the wig if your own locks aren’t quite cutting it!)

1. Crown and Coke: This is a fun couples costume or a bottle of coke complete with coke tab headband makes for a great costume on it’s own! The tutorial is pretty simple assuming you have a red dress on hand. Turn this into a group costume idea with friends and all be different bottles of pop! If you don’t have time to DIY, I found a cute option on Amazon: Coca Cola Dress and Diet Coke Dress. Jack Daniels T-shirt and black pants would be a super easy non DIY version too: Jack Daniel’s T-Shirt.
A few years ago, redditor CampingIsInTents posted a picture of her Tippi Hedren costume and got a rousing response. The idea references a popular movie, but you won't see other people wearing it at the same party. She bought the birds, but had to alter the wings to make them just right. The idea has been used by creative costume-makers a couple of times before, even on TV.
Prime Minister John Thompson signed Labour Day into law in 1894, the same year Cleveland declared it a national holiday in the United States. Many labor unions that held successful events in the United States, like the Knights of Labor, also had branches in Canada. Thompson was similarly motivated by mounting political pressure from labor activists, who organized several strikes to demand a nine-hour workday.

If you were a factory worker in the 1880s, you were probably toiling away at your job for an average of 60 hours a week, and it wasn't unheard of for textile laborers in New York to make only 75 cents a day, which was a paltry sum, even for the time. To bring attention to these unfair working conditions, labor organizers coordinated the first Labor Day parade on Tuesday, September 5, 1882.

Ben Carpenter is a cosplayer who uses a wheelchair. For this year’s Tampa Bay Comic Con, he and his group became the cast of Mad Max: Fury Road. Ben was Max in the scene where he was strapped to the front of a vehicle in order to supply blood to the driver. He used his wheelchair in the upright position for the vehicle, driven by a friend and accompanied by other characters from the movie. They won the award for Best Group Cosplay. Of course they did.
